Jeremy Carter, 28, was at his family's home in Peachtree City, Georgia, a town about 30 miles southwest of Georgia, when his relatives say he began to feel ill on Saturday. According toABC News, Carter told his congregation that his grandson went to lie down for a nap, and then sometime later passed away. Fayette County Coroner C. J. Mowell Jr. says he was notified of the death early Sunday, and the cause of death has yet to be determined. The state medical examiner's office says the case is still under investigation.
Jeremy Carter, son of President Carter's youngest son Jeff, has had run-ins with law enforcement in the past. In 2005 when he was 18, Jeremy Carter was arrested in his hometown of Peachtree City and was charged with burglary. These charges stemmed from an incident in which he was caught in friend's home, attempting to steal a video game console. Upon his arrest, police found less than an ounce of marijuana in a baggie in his shoe, and claimed that Carter's breath smelled like alcohol. According to a plea arrangement, Carter's charges were reduced from burglary to a misdemeanor theft charge, and he was sentenced to 30 days of house arrest, three years of probation, and ordered to receive drug counseling.
